Avianyan Does Not Rule Out That the State of Emergency May Be Lifted Sooner Than Expected

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Emergency Situations Tigran Avinyan does not rule out that the state of emergency may end sooner than the scheduled date of April 14. He stated this today, March 21, during a broadcast on Public Television.

“It is still unclear when this situation will end, whether it will be extended or perhaps, the state of emergency will end sooner than expected. If we see that our preventive measures are effective, it is possible that in the near future, sooner than we expect, we will return to normal life,” he said.

Referring to the legislative changes proposed in the agenda of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly, particularly regarding the provision for causing mass illness due to negligence and the criticism surrounding it, Avinyan said, “I am not yet familiar with the latest proposed changes; I will familiarize myself tomorrow. Initially, there was an article proposing imprisonment for up to five years for causing mass illness due to negligence. This provision has been revised based on the proposals from the deputies, and the final version will be presented tomorrow at the National Assembly.”
