Final Exams and Academic Year Postponement Dependent on Distance Learning Progress
The postponement of final exams and the 2019-2020 academic year will depend on the transition to distance learning established due to the emergency situation aimed at preventing the spread of the new type of coronavirus in Armenia.
According to Armenpress, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan stated this during a press conference. "The postponement of the academic year and final exams may depend on distance learning. We need to understand to what extent our teachers and schools will implement it. If we see that it is being carried out comprehensively, we will be able to draw conclusions and say whether there will be a need for additional classes or an extension of the academic year or not. We must ensure that the teaching process is organized in such a way that postponements are not necessary," noted Harutyunyan.
The Armenian government has declared a state of emergency in the country. The state of emergency has been in effect throughout the territory of the Republic of Armenia since 18:30 on March 16, 2020, until 17:00 on April 14, 2020. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Armenia has reached 84. The first case was registered on March 1, when a citizen returned to Armenia from Iran. He has since recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.
