Individuals in Turkey Who Disregard Quarantine Regulations May Face Criminal Liability

In Turkey, citizens who fail to adhere to the quarantine rules established by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of coronavirus may face imprisonment from 2 months to 1 year, reports ermenihaber.

It is noted that Turkish citizens returning from abroad, including those who have traveled to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage (Umrah), may be prosecuted under Article 195 of the Criminal Code if they do not comply with the established regulations.

Turkish lawyer Yasemin Kafadağ, commenting on the issue from a legal perspective, stated that noncompliance with quarantine measures and other necessary actions leads to criminal liability according to Turkey's criminal code. She added that an individual who deliberately or inadvertently avoids following the required rules may also face significant compensation obligations beyond the aforementioned penalties.
