Young Man Who Killed 43-Year-Old Woman Registered at Mental Health Center: Details of the Incident
On March 5, a controversial murder incident in Gyumri involved a 28-year-old man who has been registered at the Gyumri Mental Health Center. He has also been convicted four times before: twice for theft, once for making threats of murder, and once for causing bodily harm (the victim was not 43-year-old Marine). This was stated by Shirak Region Prosecutor Karen Gabrielyan in a conversation with reporters.
According to the prosecutor, Marine, who died as a result of the assault on March 5, had previously been subjected to violence by this young man. In 2016, there was another incident where the woman initially filed a complaint with the police, leading to a criminal case being opened under Article 113 of the RA Criminal Code (Causing medium serious harm to health intentionally). However, the case was later terminated on grounds of reconciliation. The victim discontinued her complaint, and under those circumstances, there was no basis for bringing charges against the individual.
Gabrielyan promised that if it is established that there were subsequent instances of violence that were not properly addressed by the police, a legal assessment of the officers' actions would be provided.
The alleged perpetrator has not yet given testimony, continues to refuse examination, and does not admit to the charges, claiming he is innocent. However, according to the prosecutor, there are sufficient grounds to prosecute him. "The perpetrator's mother and father have been interrogated and provided testimony indicating that the mentioned individual intentionally inflicted bodily harm on the victims. After the incident, he called and summoned his mother. She arrived, and in her presence, he confessed to what he had done," said the prosecutor.
Based on preliminary information in the case, the mother was initially assaulted. The argument arose from jealousy. The daughter intervened, preventing the man from hitting his mother, resulting in her suffering serious bodily injuries as well. The prosecutor stated that the man struck both women with his fists. Relevant bodily injuries were found on his hands.
"We did not find any traces or objects at the scene that would contain samples, hairs that would suggest that the blows were possibly inflicted with them," Gabrielyan explained.
It should be noted that on March 5, at 14:50, the body of a 43-year-old woman was discovered at 14 Proshyan Street in Gyumri. A child born in 2007 was hospitalized with bodily injuries from the same residence.
