First Case of Coronavirus Infection Registered at UN Headquarters
A case of coronavirus infection has been registered at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The infected individual is a staff member of the Philippine permanent mission. The diplomatic mission has been closed, and all staff have been sent home.
This is the first case of illness identified at the UN diplomatic mission in New York, as reported by TASS. The UN stated that when the diplomat visited the headquarters in the morning, several events were held in the organization's building, including a session of the Commission on the Status of Women of the General Assembly.
“He last visited the UN on Monday, March 9, for 30 minutes. At that time, he exhibited no symptoms of the illness,” the announcement stated.
A decision has been made to close the Philippine permanent mission, and all personnel have been ordered to quarantine and seek medical attention if any symptoms appear.
