Trump's Decision a Surprise for Europe
The decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to ban EU citizens from entering the U.S. has come as a shocking surprise for representatives of European countries. This was reported by CNN on Thursday, March 12.
Several European ambassadors in Washington told CNN that they did not expect this to happen, despite being in constant communication with Trump's administration in recent days.
Meanwhile, European Council President Charles Michel wrote on Twitter that the European Council would "assess the situation today." He added, "We must avoid disrupting the economy. Europe is taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, to limit the number of victims, and to support ongoing research."
It is worth noting that on March 11, President Trump announced a 30-day ban on EU citizens entering the U.S., with the exception of Great Britain.
