The Young Man Charged with Beating to Death a Woman in Gyumri Denies the Charges

A 28-year-old man charged in the case of the woman who died from beatings on March 5 in Gyumri denies the accusations against him. This was stated by Aravik Khachatryan, head of the public relations department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia, in an interview with HJ.

The man has been charged under Article 112 (causing serious harm intentionally) part 2, section 1 (against two or more persons) and Article 14 (causing the victim's death negligently) of the RA Criminal Code.

The detained 28-year-old man has also refused to give testimony and undergo the designated examinations. “He has also refused to undergo testing for the presence of alcohol in the blood, so we still do not have an answer on that matter. However, we cannot force a person to undergo such an examination,” clarified Aravik Khachatryan.

When asked whether the man's mother was present in the apartment at the time of the incident in which a 43-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter were beaten, Khachatryan stated that she was not there at that moment and arrived afterward. “The mother was not at home at the time of the incident. She called afterward. The mother arrived and saw that the woman had died, while the man was sitting next to her crying,” she told the media.

At this time, the man does not accept the charges; however, it should be noted that on March 5, according to information from the Investigative Committee of Armenia, he confessed to beating the 43-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter.

The health condition of the 13-year-old girl, who was injured and hospitalized at the “Holy Mother of God” Medical Center, is now stable and she is able to speak. This was recently reported on the Facebook page of Gevorg Derzdyan, the press secretary of “Holy Mother of God” Medical Center, who noted that the girl is still in the intensive care unit under the supervision of doctors.
