New Batch of Coronavirus Tests Received, Minister Says

Health Minister Arsen Torosyan addressed reporters regarding the availability of tests, disinfectants, and masks in Armenia, as well as other issues related to the coronavirus.

“A new batch of tests, which includes 2000 tests, has already been imported,” the minister announced.

“The situation with disinfectants seems to be better, as we have local production, but there is tension in the market regarding prices,” he noted.

“As for masks, I should mention that we have quantities to provide to medical institutions, approximately around 200,000. We know that around 300,000 have been imported to Armenia, but the acquisition price abroad has initially been very high, and consuming them at that high price gives the impression of speculation. Now the State Health Agency, by informing the public and discussing with importers, is trying to resolve this issue,” he said, adding that there is no necessity to wear masks on the street.

“Only a sick person should wear one to protect others, or someone who is in contact with a patient, in fact, in all cases of respiratory illnesses,” he emphasized. The minister reiterated that the virus is destroyed in warm weather, citing that it rarely spreads in hot countries.
