‘Fact’. The Story of the Young Man from Kourtan and an Apology

‘Fact’ newspaper writes: ‘Yesterday, Nikol Pashinyan apologized to the young man from Kourtan, whom he had spoken to very rudely, earning sharp criticism from the majority of the public. To say that this apology was unexpected is to be hopelessly naive. Every pre-election period, every electoral race (even non-election-related) has its subtleties.

The apology was anticipated, which would be followed by social media posts of admiration and adoration, such as: look at what a leader we have, what the revolution has given us, did any previous leader ever apologize, etc. Concurrently, a solution to that young man's problem was also expected. And so it happened. And it is good that it happened, except for the campaign-related tricks, especially the loyalty vows made in front of cameras.

The issue is different and has several layers. Firstly, this is not the first time the Prime Minister has blamed ‘dignified citizens’ for being poor and living poorly. Secondly, this young man is not the only one in our country in such a situation. Yes, the current authorities are not to blame for that; however, solving the issue by humiliating individuals and receiving adoration is an understatement to say the least.

What about the others, who have not found themselves in such a spotlight? There is no answer to this question. In any case, admitting the mistake is commendable, and apologizing even more so. But it would be far more commendable if the issue simply did not come to an apology.’
