Adversary Creates Tensions in Traditionally Quiet Border Area: Expert

A military expert on Turkish-Kurdish issues, Karen Hovhannisyan, has stated on his Facebook page: "The adversary has adopted a policy of introducing tension into those sections of the border that have traditionally been considered more peaceful. This behavior is driven by several factors. First, it is a transfer of traditional domestic political tension into the arena of border tensions. Following that, we see a show of force in light of certain recent realignments in the negotiation processes.

These two main factors are concerning for us as they could lead to short-term military operations in one or more directions. A large-scale military operation at this stage is at least unlikely, but this is not due to Azerbaijan's goodwill, rather it depends on the global pandemic that has struck the world. During this period, any civil entry (volunteers) will be viewed by any army as self-destruction. Therefore, I do not believe there will be large-scale military operations at this time. However, we can never say never, especially since we do not know what is in the minds of Aliyevs and Pashaevas.

In any case, I find the increase in tension in the northeastern and southwestern regions, as well as the methodologies employed by the adversary, to be very concerning."
