Let Them Take Her to the Orphanage: The Aunt of the 13-Year-Old Girl from Gyumri

On March 5 in Gyumri, the day of the murder of a 43-year-old woman and serious bodily injuries inflicted on her 13-year-old daughter, the mother of the accused, 28-year-old Davit Poghosyan, was also at the house. This was reported to NEWS.am by the girl's aunt, Varsik G.

According to her, two years ago, after her brother passed away, they stopped communicating with the daughter-in-law. A year ago, the son of her brother, unable to cope with his mother's relationship status, moved in with his aunt and has been living in Russia for the last three months; he is returning to Armenia after learning about the incident.

Neighbors have informed him that not only the accused but also his mother had been living with the daughter-in-law and her minor daughter in recent months. "The mother was also there at the time of the murder and called an ambulance to take the child to the hospital," the child's aunt told the news outlet.

The 13-year-old girl has been at Yerevan's “St. Astvatsamayr” Medical Center for five days and regained consciousness today, but her relatives have not yet visited her. Her aunt stated that her maternal relatives are not in Armenia, and her paternal relatives do not want to take responsibility for her further care: "I cannot become her guardian. I’m a pensioner and a woman who has had a heart attack."

When asked why she doesn’t at least visit the girl, she replied, “Why would I go? Would my husband let me go? No, I won’t go. I can’t bear to see the child in that condition. Let them take her to the orphanage.”
