Direct: March Against Violence Against Women
In Yerevan and then in Gyumri, a march against violence against women is taking place today, March 9. The event is organized by members of the "Against Violence Against Women" coalition and a group of feminist activists, reports NEWS.am.
“Just days ago, in Gyumri, 43-year-old Marine was killed as a result of brutal beatings by her partner. Her life could have been saved if we were not indifferent to violence, had noticed the bruises on her face, and had alerted authorities when she was lying at home with serious injuries for 8 hours, waiting for help,” say the participants of the march.
Participants hold banners reading, “Women are being killed because of your silence,” “Women are killed in families,” “No to violence,” “Stop killing us,” and “No to violence.”
It is reminded that on March 5, the body of a 43-year-old woman was discovered in one of the houses on Proshyan Street in Gyumri, showing signs of violence. A 13-year-old girl from the same house was hospitalized with injuries described as “traumatic shock, closed cranial injury.” Her condition remains extremely serious.
