Suspect Who Fired Shots at Businessman Detained While Attempting to Cross Armenia's Border
On March 5, officers from the Armavir regional division of the police and the Vagharshapat Police Department, in collaboration with the Lory regional police and investigators from the Armavir regional investigative department of Armenia’s Investigative Committee, conducted necessary operational and investigative measures to identify the suspect who fired shots from a submachine gun at the jeep of 36-year-old H. Harutyunyan in the village of Aghavnatun, Armavir region, causing him gunshot wounds. This was reported by Shamshyan.com.
As a result of the operational actions of the police and investigators, the suspect, 34-year-old Karen Alaverdyan, a resident of the same village, was found and detained at the Tashir border crossing while attempting to cross the border of Armenia.
Earlier, it was reported that, according to sources, an assassination attempt using a firearm had occurred in the Armavir region on March 5. Around 02:40, a call was received at the Vagharshapat Police Department from the Vagharshapat medical center, stating that a citizen with gunshot wounds had been brought to them.
The police and investigators determined that the victim was 36-year-old Harutyun Harutyunyan, a resident of the village of Aghavnatun, who, according to doctors, was unable to provide an explanation about the incident.
The police and investigators of the Armavir region had established that, on the same day, around 02:10, an unknown individual fired shots from a submachine gun at H. Harutyunyan in front of house number 30 on Barsgay Nerisyans street in the village of Aghavnatun. H. Harutyunyan was in a jeep with the license plate T 790 MB 777 RUS, which had several bullet marks. A large number of cartridges fired from an automatic weapon were also discovered at the crime scene.
