Indonesia to Quarantine COVID-19 Patients on Uninhabited Island
Indonesian authorities intend to establish a hospital and quarantine center for COVID-19 patients on one of its uninhabited islands. This was reported by The Jakarta Post on March 5.
They plan to set up a hospital for COVID-19 patients on the small Galang uninhabited island, located about 50 kilometers from the international Hang Nadim Airport on Batam Island. Galang retains temporary shelters that housed Vietnamese refugees from 1976 to 1996.
The head of the Indonesian Air Force's (TNI) command stated that Galang Island was chosen as the location for a COVID-19 hospital because several buildings from the refugee camp still remain. The island is equipped with clean water and electricity.
