‘Fact’ Report: Authorities Close to Decision on YSU Rector Appointment
The 'Fact' newspaper reports: 'According to information from the “Fact” newspaper, the authorities are very close to making a decision regarding the appointment of the rector of Yerevan State University (YSU). Our sources insist that the current candidate favored by the authorities is Vahram Dumanyan, the dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics at YSU.
His matters have been resolved at high levels of power by Samvel Karabekyan, a former aide to Levon Ter-Petrosyan and now an advisor to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports. Vahram Dumanyan is a supporter of the Armenian National Congress, a long-time friend of Babken Ararktsyan, and Samvel Karabekyan has been the head of the YSU Arab Studies department for many years.
Moreover, Samvel Karabekyan supported Arayik Harutyunyan during his studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at YSU. Additionally, Vahram Dumanyan, Samvel Karabekyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan were active participants in Levon Ter-Petrosyan's movement in 2008.
Now, everyone is waiting for the final decision regarding the YSU rector appointment, which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to make during a meeting with Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Our source notes that Vahram Dumanyan will practically become the rector of YSU as a result of a significant deal between Pashinyan and Ter-Petrosyan.'
