Frontex to Provide Urgent Assistance to Greece on Migration Issues
The European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, has announced that it is intervening urgently at Greece's external borders due to the influx of migrants from Turkey.
The Executive Director of Frontex has agreed to initiate an urgent border intervention today, aimed at helping Greece address the issue of a large number of migrants. Last night, the Greek government officially requested Frontex to commence an urgent border intervention in the Aegean at its maritime borders.
The agency clarifies that the 'urgent border intervention aims to provide immediate assistance to the EU member state, which is under exceptional pressure at its external border, especially since a large number of citizens from non-EU countries are attempting to illegally cross into the area.'
