Armenia and Georgia Sign Military Cooperation Program for 2020

The Ministries of Defense of Armenia and Georgia have signed the 2020 Military Cooperation Program. This was announced today by Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan during a joint statement following a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Irakli Garibashvili.

"I must emphasize that, proud of the millennium-old friendly relations between our peoples, Armenia and Georgia hold great significance for each other in the fields of security, economy, politics, culture, and many other areas. We must continuously expand cooperation in the aforementioned areas. I would like to express my deep gratitude to my colleague for making his first official visit to Armenia in the South Caucasus region. As a result of our meeting, we signed the 2020 Military Cooperation Program between the Ministries of Defense of Armenia and Georgia, which includes actions in the defense sector. These include military education, training of servicemen for peacekeeping, and mountain training. I would like to assure that Armenia and Georgia mutually understand and respect each other's democratic systems and values," said Tonoyan.

In turn, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated, "First of all, allow me to thank my very good colleague, Mr. Tonoyan, for the hospitality and interesting meetings. It is a great honor for me to visit Armenia as the Georgian Defense Minister. Armenia is a country with which we share very good, friendly relations and mutual respect that span centuries. We had a very interesting and profound discussion during our meeting. We exchanged views on regional challenges. We also agreed that there is no alternative to our developing friendly relations, nor is there an alternative to peaceful conflict resolution and ensuring peace and stability in the region. The evidence of this is the positive, growing dynamics that we see in the framework of bilateral cooperation. I also want to emphasize the stable cooperation that exists between our two ministries," noted Garibashvili.
