Georgia Transitions to Pandemic Preparedness Due to Coronavirus
In response to the increased risk of the coronavirus entering the country, the Ministry of Health of Georgia has shifted to a pandemic preparedness mode. This was announced by Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia.
This week, a new government decree detailing how the country will monitor individuals arriving from various parts of the world will be made public. Currently, there are no reported cases of coronavirus in Georgia.
The World Health Organization has urged all countries to strengthen measures to combat the spread of the virus. Just a day ago, nine patients were hospitalized in an infectious disease hospital in Tbilisi for examination. Among them were two citizens of Iran, where cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in different regions, while seven were Georgian citizens who had arrived from China. After examinations, five patients were discharged from the hospital as no coronavirus was detected.
