Republican Party Expresses Support for Serge Sargsyan
The Republican Party of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the trial of its president, the third President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, which is set to begin today.
“Today marks the start of a trial in a criminal case in which the Republican Party president and third President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, is also involved as a defendant on the basis of a contrived and absurd pretext. The initiation of proceedings against him, based solely on one coerced testimony and under dubious circumstances, coupled with the violations committed by the Special Investigation Service during the investigation, and the biased targeting of Sargsyan by the state propaganda machine, all indicate that the case is entirely guided and ordered, where a politically motivated process is being carried out under the guise of a criminal charge.
It is noteworthy that the launch of this trial comes against the backdrop of the authorities’ grossly incompetent security and diplomatic operations amidst the context created around the negotiations regarding Artsakh. Through such actions, the authorities aim to divert the attention of the Armenian people from numerous other internal and external challenges that are intensifying day by day.
Reiterating previous assessments in this regard: • We express our support and solidarity with the third President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan. • We demand that the judicial authorities of the Republic of Armenia ensure a fully fair and legal trial process. • We invite the unbiased attention of local and foreign media to this trial. • If necessary, we will take all legal measures to defend Serge Sargsyan's rights, freedom, and dignity.
