First Court Hearing in the Case of Serzh Sargsyan to Take Place Today

“Joghoud” newspaper reports: “Today, there will be heightened security at the Court of General Jurisdiction of Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts. The reason is that the first court hearing in the case of the third president Serzh Sargsyan, who is accused of organizing embezzlement of nearly half a billion drams from the state budget, is expected to take place under the chairmanship of Judge Vahe Misakyan.

There are a total of 5 defendants in the case, including the former Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan and Barsk Beglaryan, the owner of the ‘Flash’ company, who is close to Serzh Sargsyan. The decision to establish heightened security is not coincidental, as members of the Republican Party and their supporters have decided to gather in front of the court today to support their party leader.

In an interview with the newspaper, the spokesperson for the Republican Party Edward Sharmazanov stated, “Many people will come to stand with our party leader in front of the court.” Interesting developments are also occurring around Judge Vahe Misakyan. The newspaper learned that Judge Vahe Misakyan wishes to recuse himself. In this regard, the judge stated in our conversation, “In general, I am not frightened by anyone, nor am I intimidated, nor do I fear anything. I have no reason to be constrained, nor is there any circumstance.”

However, the newspaper was informed that when the case was assigned to Judge Vahe Misakyan, he said that he did not want to review this case, and he was explained that the computer selected him, and he had no alternative and must review it. This situation is also noteworthy in that members of the Republican Party previously considered themselves invincible, and Serzh Sargsyan irreplaceable.

Serzh Sargsyan, who boasts about the transfer of power with the statements “power is passing through Melik-Adamyans,” is to appear before the court today. And even if the Velvet Revolution brought nothing, this scene alone was enough to see the arrogant image of the Republican Party shattered.”
