Armenian Teacher in Sochi Comes Close to Choking Student While Defending Colleague

A math teacher at School No. 75 in Sochi, Tigran Asriyan, raised his voice during class, a moment captured by students on video which later surfaced online.

Asriyan became angry with the students, and at one point came close to choking one of them. It later emerged that his actions were in defense of his colleague.

Witnesses reported that prior to Asriyan’s intervention, the teacher conducting the class had exited in tears, and Asriyan attempted to protect her.

The teacher has since publicly apologized to the student’s family. Law enforcement is investigating the incident, and an internal review is underway.

Asriyan is recognized as a leading specialist in the Department of Education and Science in Sochi.
