Video: Illegal Logging in Sevan National Park Leads to Criminal Case
On February 18, around 16:30, a report was received by the Martuni division of the police from Sevan National Park, indicating that a man had illegally cut down 17 pine trees in the forested area of Astghadzor village just hours earlier, while driving an Opel vehicle.
The Police Information and Public Relations Department of Armenia informed that as a result of immediate measures taken, it was determined that the driver of the Opel was a 46-year-old resident of Astghadzor village. The suspect was apprehended the same day and brought to the Martuni division of the police along with his vehicle, after which he indicated the location of the felled trees, claiming that he had cut them down to use as firewood later.
According to preliminary investigation data, Sevan National Park suffered approximately half a million drams in material damage due to the illegal logging. A criminal case has been initiated on this fact, and the 46-year-old man has been presented to the Martuni investigative division. The investigation is ongoing.
