Trial of Hayk Sargsyan Concludes: Prosecutor to Present Opening Statement at Next Hearing
The trial of Hayk Sargsyan, nephew of Armenia's third President Serzh Sargsyan, concluded at the Shengavit district court in Yerevan, presided over by Judge Anna Danibekyan. The prosecutor is set to present the opening statement at the next hearing.
The next court session is scheduled for March 25 at 16:00. Hayk Sargsyan is accused of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons for an incident that occurred 11 years ago.
He faces charges under Article 34-104, part 1 (attempted murder) and Article 235, part 1 (illegal acquisition and possession of firearms) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. According to the indictment, on April 1, 2007, at around 16:00, in the basement of his residence at 14 Tumanyan Street in Yerevan, he allegedly fired a gun, a SIGSAUER pistol, at Davit Simonian with intent to kill. However, the crime was not completed due to circumstances beyond his control.
It is worth noting that on September 10, 2018, Judge Anna Danibekyan granted a request from Hayk Sargsyan's defense attorney, allowing for his release on bail. Following the payment of a bail amounting to 50 million AMD, Sargsyan was released from the Nubarashen penitentiary.
