Investigation to Begin in Turkey Against Judges Who Acquitted Pro-Armenian Figure

An investigation will be launched in Turkey against the judges who issued acquitting verdicts for those accused in the Gezi Park case, including pro-Armenian figure Osman Kavala.

According to reports, the Turkish Council of Judges and Prosecutors has granted permission to investigate the president of the Istanbul 30th Heavy Criminal Court, Galip Mehmet Perk, and court members Ahmet Chiftyoglu and Talip Ergen, who made decisions regarding the Gezi Park case, as reported by ErmeniHaber.

It is noteworthy that among the 16 individuals accused of attempting to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey during the anti-government protests in Gezi Park in 2013, only Osman Kavala was held in custody, with all defendants facing life imprisonment. Following a ruling on February 18, Kavala was immediately re-arrested after being released.

This time, Kavala faces a similar charge related to the attempted military coup in Turkey in 2016. It is important to mention that Osman Kavala is a well-known public figure who founded and led the Anadolu Kültür foundation for many years, organizing events representing Armenian culture. Kavala has acknowledged the facts of the Armenian Genocide and has vehemently condemned it.
