Jhoghovurd: Additional Punishment Assigned to Sargis Sahakyan

The newspaper 'Jhoghovurd' reports: 'An additional punishment has been imposed on former Aragatsotn governor Sargis Sahakyan. The Court of Appeals of Armenia has made a new decision. 'Jhoghovurd' newspaper had previously written: 'The former governor has been charged with causing significant damage to the state by approving and circulating a final act regarding the unfinished and incomplete work stipulated by the contract signed between the Aragatsotn Provincial Administration and 'Gretschin' LLC for the construction of a drinking water pipeline in the community of Nerk’in Bazmaberd during his tenure.'

According to the two charges brought against the former governor, he should have been sentenced to 7 years in prison; however, he was released from the punishment assigned by the court due to amnesty. The prosecuting attorney, however, did not fully agree with the court's decision and appealed the case to the Court of Appeals of Armenia on October 22. The Court of Appeals of Armenia upheld the prosecutor's appeal and assigned an additional punishment to Sargis Sahakyan, the brother of former MP Nairi Sahakyan, prohibiting him from holding any position in state and local self-governing bodies for a period of 1 year,' the newspaper writes.
