Draft Decision to Commemorate the Victims of the Armenian Genocide Registered in Ukraine's Parliament
The draft decision to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide has been registered in the Supreme Rada of Ukraine. The legislative initiative by MP Daria Volodina of the Servant of the People party was registered on February 14 (No. 3070, 02/14/2020), as reported by ermenihaber.
Vilen Shatvoryan, the head of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of this initiative from the perspective of adhering to the principles of humanitarianism, truth, and justice.
The source reminds that this is already the fourth legislative initiative in the last 10 years. Recently, Servant of the People party MP Anton Polyakov registered a draft decision recognizing the Armenian Genocide (No. 2376, 05.11.2019). In 2013, the Supreme Rada registered a draft decision on recognizing the Armenian Genocide that took place in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. The initiators of draft No. 2254a were Ukrainian people's deputies Vilen Shatvoryan, Arsen Avakov, and Nver Mkhitaryan. On April 3, 2015, the Supreme Rada registered for the second time draft resolution by MP Vitali Barvinenko recognizing the Armenian Genocide, to which dozens of lawmakers joined at that time.
