Ararat Mirzoyan's Meetings in Copenhagen Continue
The Member of Parliament from the 'My Step' faction, Gevorg Papoyan, announced on his Facebook page that a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, is currently in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.
"We met with the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Henrik Dam Kristensen (Social Democrats). The meeting was also attended by the First Deputy Speaker, Karen Ellermann (Liberal Party), and Deputy Speaker Jens Rode (Danish Social Liberal Party). At the request of the Danish side, the Speaker presented the path Armenia has taken since independence and the changes that occurred after the Velvet Revolution and the extraordinary parliamentary elections of 2018. The agenda of democratic changes adopted by Armenia was discussed, particularly in the judiciary sector.
The scope of cooperation concerning reforms of the Electoral Code and the Political Parties Law with various European institutions was also addressed. The Speaker of the Danish Parliament expressed readiness to support the National Assembly of Armenia in consolidating democratic achievements across all sectors.
Mirzoyan particularly emphasized that this is the first official visit of the National Assembly of Armenia to the Kingdom of Denmark at the level of the Speaker, expressing hope that new opportunities will arise for experience exchange between the two legislative bodies and for close cooperation in international parliamentary organizations.
While expressing regret that there is no tradition in the Danish Parliament to form friendship groups, both sides expressed hope that effective platforms for mutually beneficial cooperation could be established through organizing joint meetings and discussions of the relevant parliamentary committees, reciprocal visits, and continuous communication among various parliamentary factions.
The Speaker of the National Assembly expressed gratitude to the Danish Parliament for officially informing the Secretary General of the Council of Europe about the ratification of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the EU and completing internal procedures.
Ararat Mirzoyan expressed hope that the Danish side would support the Armenian authorities in starting dialogue on the liberalization of visa procedures with the EU.
At the request of the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Ararat Mirzoyan presented questions from the Armenian domestic agenda, including the upcoming referendum on April 5 and ongoing processes around the Constitutional Court, speaking on the necessity of changing the Constitution as a guarantee of success for ongoing judicial, legal, and economic reforms in Armenia.
The wide range of issues concerning regional security, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, was also discussed. Members of the delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly presented the essence of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenia's approaches towards resolving it exclusively through peaceful means within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship," wrote Gevorg Papoyan.
