Today, February 18, a serious and chain reaction traffic accident occurred in the Kotayk region due to black ice on the road. At about 08:30, vehicles including a Mercedes with license plate 36 TX 722, a Kia with license plate 866 LT 61, a Gazelle serving route 269 with license plate 1993 L, an Opel with license plate 36 NX 311, a Lada Samara 1600 with license plate 03 OO 070, and a Gazelle serving route 39 with license plate 1773 T collided in the administrative area of the village of Zovuni, as reported by shamshyan.com.
According to the news outlet, the Gazelle serving route 39 exited the regulated traffic lane, crashed into rocks, and overturned, becoming lodged in the electrical substation. An emergency team from Yerevan’s ambulance service arrived on the scene promptly, providing assistance to several citizens, two of whom were transported with injuries to the Armenia Medical Center.
Photographers at the scene reported that a one-kilometer stretch of the road was completely covered in black ice. Drivers blamed the road maintenance authorities, however, they argued that the road had been cleared properly, stating that there was no snow or ice prior to this incident, and local residents pointed to “Veolia Water” as responsible for the black ice issue.
