Rescue Operations Recover 170 Vehicles from Sotk-Karvajar Road
According to information registered at the National Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, due to weather conditions, from February 11 at 16:44 to February 12 at 13:00, a total of 170 vehicles were blocked on the Sisian-Goris road in the Syunik Province. This was reported by the Ministry's press service.
The Goris and Sisian road maintenance companies are carrying out clearance and preventive measures to avoid further snow accumulation on the roads.
According to hydrometeorological service data, snowfall began in the mentioned area between February 12 at 01:15 and 02:20. As of 10:00, the wind speed reached 20 m/s. Preliminary forecasts indicate that the snowfall will continue until 17:00.
Police forces are present at the scene, but there has been no need for emergency medical assistance.
From February 11 at 19:10, the Sisian-Goris road has been closed, followed by the Vardanyats Pass from February 12 at 05:00, and the Sotk-Karvajar road at 10:40.
As of February 12 at 12:40, rescuers removed a total of 170 vehicles and 279 people from the Sotk-Karvajar road, transferring them to temporary first aid posts located at the 12th km of the Goris-Sisian road and in the Sisian-Ishkhanasar section. Rescuers provided citizens with hot beverages. Some of the citizens were transported to local fire-rescue teams, where they received appropriate assistance.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations urges all drivers blocked on the road to turn back and travel only when weather conditions improve slightly.
