Salmonella Detected in Éclairs Consumed by Poisoned Citizens

In connection with the poisoning cases of residents in Lori and Syunik provinces linked to the éclairs produced by the company "Zeytun Sweet", specialists from the regional units of the Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia have undertaken supervisory actions. This information was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Food Safety Inspectorate.

During an inspection by FSI inspectors at the facilities of "Zeytun Sweet", it was found that the product type "Éclair with frosting" had not undergone conformity assessment and lacks a safety declaration. Samples were taken from the raw materials present at the time of production, including eggs, butter, and spread, as well as from the finished products, namely the frosted éclairs.

Laboratory examinations of both raw materials and finished products taken from the production facility did not reveal any violations. Although the batch of éclairs had been consumed in local stores, a non-defective package of éclairs provided by one of the affected citizens in Syunik was also sent for laboratory testing. The examination of that sample detected salmonella bacteria.

The company "Zeytun Sweet" has been issued an order to prohibit the sale of the product, recall it from the market, destroy it, or withdraw it. A deadline has been set for rectifying the deficiencies. Sanitary and hygienic disinfection works have been carried out at the production site.
