Russian and Turkish Presidents May Hold Meeting in Syria

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has not ruled out that the presidents of Turkey and Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vladimir Putin, may hold a meeting in the Syrian Idlib region for the purpose of de-escalation.

“We are constantly in touch with Russia. Recently, there was a phone conversation between our presidents, during which it was decided to continue working in Idlib. We will await the Russian delegation. Then, if necessary, our presidents will meet personally,” Çavuşoğlu said during his visit to Baku.

According to the Turkish minister, Turkey's issues are not with Russia, but with the Syrian government forces. “Why do we need clashes with Russia? Who organizes the attacks? The regime. Who is targeting our observation posts? The regime. Our patience is not limitless, and we will respond many times if the attacks do not cease,” the Turkish diplomat stated.

Çavuşoğlu also added that Ankara continuously communicates with the Russian side at all levels regarding the determination to stop attacks by Syrian forces.
