Many Armenians Stranded in China Unable to Return to Armenia
Kristine Manukyan, director of the Armenian-Chinese friendship company 'Pam Group', has issued a plea for help. The situation has worsened due to the spread of coronavirus in China.
In an interview with AuroraNews, she reported that numerous Armenians are trapped in China and cannot return to Armenia. Armenian citizens working on a contractual basis in China are expressing their concerns, as they are forced to remain at the airport in Xi'an because they cannot go back home.
Those who had previously purchased tickets from a Russian airline discovered upon arrival at the airport that the flight was only available for Russian citizens and were not allowed to board. "The plane is operating the flight only for Russian citizens," they stated.
According to Armenians in China, even if they manage to return to the city, they will have no place to sleep, as they have already given up their homes. "We find ourselves in a hopeless situation. There are flights every day, and the number of people stranded is increasing. Some families need to return with their children," they added.
Armenians are being refunded for their tickets but are told that no further assistance can be provided. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Armenian embassy in China have been issuing regular statements saying they are in contact with Armenian citizens and are providing as much support as possible, including arranging transport issues.
Armenian citizens who went to China for work have mentioned that during this period Russian airlines continue to sell tickets, but various airports in different Chinese cities have banned flights. Now, many passengers are faced with the reality of being stuck in airports, as Armenians and representatives from other countries are not permitted to board the planes because evacuations are being conducted only for Russian citizens.
