Tensions Rise at PACE, Yet No Sanctions Imposed by Chair: Edmon Marukyan

Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia party and a member of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), recently elected as the first deputy chair of the Assembly's Committee on Human Rights and Legal Affairs, stated on his Facebook page: "Tensions have reignited at PACE. On Monday morning, the legitimacy of the Russian delegation was contested, and now there is an ongoing debate on whether to confirm their authority or not. If not confirmed, the Russian delegation will once again be absent, as it was for four years previously.

During the speech by the head of the Russian delegation, Tolstoy, several Ukrainian delegates were banging on the tables, and after the speech, the tensions remained high, with Ukrainian delegates shouting from their seats, disrupting the flow of the session. Regardless, the chair did not impose any sanctions on delegates from any country.

Ultimately, the session resumed its course amidst a tense atmosphere, with a vote expected at the end.
