Evo Morales Does Not Rule Out Return to Politics

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales has not ruled out a return to politics as a candidate for either deputy or senator in an interview with Destape Radio, as reported by RIA Novosti.

"I have been asked to be a candidate for deputy or senator; this is still under discussion and will depend on the area where I have lived, namely Cochabamba," Morales said.

After the opposition, led by Carlos Mesa, announced widespread electoral fraud, Morales resigned under military pressure and left the country. Following his resignation, the entire top leadership of Bolivia also stepped down, and power was handed over to the opposition's Senate Vice President, Jeanine Áñez. The authorities announced new elections, in which Morales is prohibited from running for office.
