What Products Are Banned from Importing from China Due to Coronavirus

The ban on the import of animal-origin products and raw materials from China to Armenia will remain in effect until the World Health Organization declares that the danger has passed. This was stated by Gevorg Avetisyan, head of the Food Safety Inspection Body of Armenia, in an interview with Armenian Time.

To prevent the entry of the new coronavirus, Armenia has prohibited the import of animal-origin products and raw materials produced in other countries using Chinese-origin raw materials. The main animal products imported from China to Armenia are seafood, including shrimp, sea bass, snakehead fish, octopus, and more.

Furthermore, the head of the Food Safety Inspection Body revealed that more plant-origin products are imported from China to Armenia, such as soybeans, rice, and several types of legumes, on which there is no ban.

In 2019, approximately 15 tons of seafood were imported from China to Armenia. From January 1 to January 26 of this year (before the ban), about 1000 kg of products were imported.

When asked whether there would be any restrictions on the sale of animal-origin products that have already been imported, the inspectorate head stated that there are no such bans.
