What is Happening Today is Required: Suren Sahakyan

What is happening in Armenia cannot be called politics. This was stated by Suren Sahakyan, the secretary of the executive body of the 'Citizen's Decision' party, on his Facebook page.

He particularly mentioned: 'There are people among my friends who say/write that they are tired of politics, they curse politics. Some even organize flash mobs to temporarily refrain from talking about politics. Meanwhile, what is happening in Armenia cannot be called politics. If there is a government that you either love and justify all its actions, or hate and curse everything about it, that is not politics. Politics refers to the commission established for constitutional amendments, because our future existence depends on its work, but there is no public discourse about it.'

'Politics includes the process of criminalizing criminal culture, but the whole issue boils down to whether Gevorg Petrosyan will be punished for three letters or not. Politics is what we have, apparently the legacy of the 90s, a businessman-athlete-deputy like Gagik Tsarukyan. This is a phenomenon where everyone agrees that the law and constitutional order should operate in the country, but some are allowed to publicly violate it / a very interesting phenomenon, by the way /. The dispute regarding the Supreme Court could be considered political if it didn’t revolve around the question of whether Hrayr Tovmasyan is good or not. Can you imagine that the key point in the conversation about the country's highest court revolves around one person's party affiliation and personal qualities / whether they are flattering or not, whether they embrace from behind or not /? That is roughly the same as if a criterion for the head of the Constitutional Court were whether they snore at night or not. How can someone lead the Constitutional Court if they violate others' rights and legal interests while asleep at night?

If the conversation were about the Constitutional Court not functioning as a mechanism for 30 years and that this mechanism should be replaced by some other mechanism, that would be political. This cannot be related to a person.

But do we really need political conversations, processes, debates? In reality, what is happening today is required. And what, in my opinion, should be considered political—no. This is a show. Is there a demand, it seems so, and it is so controversial that even its supporters can have something to talk about for a year after every act, so can its opponents. It turns out that whatever demand is placed in front of the government, it is also obtained. And in this regard, Nikol is ideal for the 'people.' Moreover, Nikol and the 'My Step' alliance are the people themselves. In this sense, the claim that 'the people have come to power' is justified. Would anything change if the National Assembly were strictly political, ethically flawless? I believe it would change. There simply wouldn’t be an occasion to insult the National Assembly, and the entire heavy burden of the spectacle would fall on the government. That's fair, dear people.'
