Tigran Sargsyan Plans to Return to Politics
According to the "Fact" newspaper, a reliable source has revealed that Tigran Sargsyan, the President of the EAEU Board and former Prime Minister of Armenia, is preparing to return to Armenia shortly and to actively engage in the developments of the political landscape in the country.
As is known, Sargsyan's term as EAEU president will end in February 2020 (in accordance with the rotational governance principle, the presidency will next be assumed by Belarus), and he essentially has no further role in the EAEU.
The newspaper's source has not ruled out that the former Prime Minister's return to the Armenian political sphere could take place under the banner of a new political force, which could have a quite impressive representation.
At the same time, government sources within the newspaper, who also predict that Sargsyan will actively engage in political processes upon returning to Armenia, indicate that the authorities are closely monitoring the circumstances of his return.
Our source has also reported that Sargsyan's return to Armenia could be accompanied by the inclusion of him in various criminal cases.
In particular, there are circulating rumors within government circles that authorities plan to thoroughly investigate his years in office as Prime Minister, especially if he assumes a prominent opposition position after his return.
