The Government Has Reinstated Me into Politics: Kocharian Gives Interview
The government has essentially and through its actions reinstated me into politics, and by keeping me in captivity, it is successfully turning me into a symbol of resistance against its dysfunctional governance. This was stated by the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, in an interview with Yerevan.today.
“Fate once granted me the opportunity to lead the struggle for the independence of Artsakh, which symbolized the revival of national consciousness. When the movement had just begun, I miraculously managed to avoid an Azerbaijani prison. The irony of fate is that by depriving me of freedom, our government today is compensating for what was not achieved by the Azerbaijanis at that time,” he said.
According to Kocharian, history knows many inspiring examples of successful political struggles from prison. Perhaps I am destined to play a very important role in freeing the country from a corrupt government that undermines our national identity.
