The Case of Theft from a Yerevan Resident's Apartment and Destruction of His Vehicle Uncovered
The Investigation Committee of Armenia has uncovered a case involving the theft from a Yerevan resident's apartment and the deliberate destruction of his vehicle, following extensive investigative and procedural actions carried out by the Shengavit Division of the Committee.
Charges have been brought against three individuals, as reported by the Investigation Committee. The preliminary investigation revealed several circumstances surrounding the case and identified the suspects, who are residents of Yerevan born in 1993, 1996, and 1995.
According to the data obtained during the investigation, a 26-year-old resident of Yerevan, after reaching a preliminary agreement with two other residents of the city born in 1996 and 1995 regarding the secret theft of someone else's property, illegally entered the basement of an apartment on Chekhov Street by breaking a window between 02:00 and 05:00 on August 7, 2019, and subsequently accessed the apartment, stealing various valuable items.
Moreover, the 26-year-old took the keys of a Toyota Yaris parked at the back of the building from the kitchen table and, in agreement with the aforementioned two youths, transported the vehicle underneath a bridge in Kotayk Province, where it was intentionally set on fire, resulting in significant property damage totaling 18,018,000 AMD.
During the investigation, a series of necessary investigative and procedural actions were carried out. An inspection of the young man's residence revealed a factory-made 7.62mm/7.62x39 caliber military round.
A new criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident, which has been integrated into the ongoing investigation of the aforementioned events. Based on the accumulated sufficient evidence, the 26-year-old has been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia, including Article 177, part 3, points 1 and 1.1, Article 183, part 3, point 1, Article 185, part 3, point 1, and Article 235, part 1.
The two younger individuals, aged 23 and 24, have also been charged under similar articles of the Criminal Code. They have been placed under custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing.
