Tragic Car Accident: Returning from a Birthday Celebration, 1 Dead and 4 Injured
A tragic car accident occurred in the Kotayk region. Participants returning from a birthday celebration were involved in a crash, resulting in 1 death and 4 injuries, including 2 children.
The incident took place when 38-year-old Razmik Gevorkyan, a resident of Oshakan village in the Aragatsotn region, was driving a VAZ 21015 vehicle along the Yerevan-Artashat highway at the 16 km mark, in the administrative area of Proshyan village. While heading towards Oshakan, he collided with a tree in the median strip, breaking it, and veered into oncoming traffic, crashing into the wall of a commercial kiosk. The vehicle then flipped over from a height of 1 meter, landing in an orchard.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the driver and his passengers—36-year-old Narine Gevorkyan, 15-year-old Mesrop Gevorkyan, 11-year-old Hegine Gevorkyan, and 35-year-old Sargis Voskanian—were first assisted by residents living nearby the accident scene. The emergency medical team from the Ashtarak Medical Center later arrived to transport them, some to 'Ashtarak' and others to 'Armenia' Medical Centers.
A group from the Emergency Situations Ministry’s Rescue Service of the Aragatsotn region arrived at the scene with one firefighting unit. An investigation is underway regarding the incident.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the deceased and the passengers were relatives returning from the birthday celebration.
