Azerbaijan's Known Losses in 2019
From January 1 to December 31, 2019, the specialized website Razm.info became aware of at least 47 losses among the Azerbaijani armed forces and other power structures, although we only have personal data on 44 of them.
The losses are counted at a minimum of 47 because, according to data from the Azerbaijani opposition military research center “Khazar”, operating in Germany, 46 losses were reported from the beginning of that year (another suicide case became known on December 24). It is also worth noting that since the “Khazar” center does not publish a list of losses, we cannot claim that our list coincides name for name with theirs, thus it is possible that the actual number of losses exceeds 47.
Moreover, Azerbaijan consistently conceals its losses (especially following the August 2014 battles), some of which are uncovered months or even years later (for example). Most likely, there are also losses that are unknown to both Razm.info and “Khazar”. Out of the 44 known losses, 8 were combat-related, 29 were non-combat, and the causes of death for 7 are unknown.
* The figures reported by “Khazar”, for which personal data is not available.
In 2019, in addition to the losses from the current year, Razm.info also learned from open sources about hidden losses from 2015. On July 10, 2015, an Azerbaijani military doctor named Nadir Mammadov Mammad oglu (born in 1982) died in a car accident in the Tovuz region.
