In 2019, the State Revenue Committee Uncovered Drugs Worth Over $3 Million: Vardan Vardanyan

During 2019, the monetary value of drugs and psychotropic substances uncovered by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia exceeded 1.5 billion AMD, which is more than $3 million in drugs found. This was stated today at a press conference by Vardan Vardanyan, head of the Committee's Anti-Smuggling Department.

"The drugs are sealed, sent to the investigative department, where, after the criminal case is concluded, these substances are destroyed," Vardanyan noted, adding that in 2019, 56 cases of smuggling were also detected, which led to administrative proceedings without any criminal cases being initiated.

"A total of 574 mobile phones were found that had been unlawfully imported into Armenia through concealment, non-declaration, and provision of inaccurate information, along with more than 5 kg of gold and silver jewelry, as well as about 60 kg of medication that did not contain drugs or psychotropic substances. Additionally, food products, clothing, automotive spare parts, and other goods were also uncovered," Vardanyan highlighted.
