A Child Struck by a Ministry of Defense KamAZ at a Pedestrian Crossing in Yerevan, Dies

On January 24, a fatal accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 08:20, 65-year-old Hrach Yetharyan, driving a KamAZ truck with license plate PN 1945 T, struck a child at the pedestrian crossing in front of School No. 52. According to shamshyan.com, the driver did not flee the scene, while the child was taken to the 'Saint Astvatsamayr' medical center with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after arriving, the child, who did not regain consciousness, was reported to have died.

The news outlet reports that locals at the scene mentioned that road traffic incidents and pedestrian accidents frequently occur in that area, including tragic ones. Both residents and school staff have repeatedly appealed to the Yerevan municipality and road police to install lighting and create artificial irregularities in the road, but each time were told that the matter should be addressed at the school's expense. Residents even threatened to block the road, but squad commander M. Simonyan informed the head of the RA Road Police, Egor Karapetyan, who instructed to examine the issue on-site and resolve it in favor of the residents.
