Drivers to Be Fined for Not Changing Tires on Time, Government Proposes

The Armenian police have introduced a new legislative initiative during the government session. It proposes to fine drivers who use summer tires during the winter season 20,000 drams.

The law also clarifies the concept of "winter period," defined as the time from December 1 to March 31.

Simultaneously, the draft law suggests imposing fines on drivers who operate vehicles without switching on their headlights during this period. In this case, the fine will amount to 5,000 drams.

Moreover, the draft law proposes more severe penalties for taxi drivers. While other drivers could face a 20,000 dram fine for using non-winter tires in winter, taxi drivers will face a fine of 25,000 drams.

It is worth mentioning that the points given to drivers for this violation, according to the draft law, will not decrease.

The police's proposal was accepted in the government without discussion or reporting. The future of the new fines will be determined after discussions in Parliament.

It should be noted that the authors of the bill plan for it to come into effect on December 1, 2020. This means that the new fines will apply during the next winter.
