This is an assault on the judicial system of Armenia: Arman Babajanyan

MP Arman Babajanyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Yesterday, gunfire was directed at the window of the office of Tatik Grigoryan, a judge at the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, Central and Norq-Mashtots Administrative Districts. The judge has reported this incident to the police. Officers arriving at the scene found a bullet between the window panes. Forensic and chemical examinations have been ordered.

I strongly condemn such an unacceptable assault on the judge. Law enforcement agencies must uncover the incident, including all its motives and reasons, and hold the perpetrator or perpetrators to the utmost accountability. This is an assault not only on an individual judge but also on the judicial system of Armenia and the very idea of justice.

The state must provide the strictest criminal-legal assessment of what has happened, sending a message that the judicial system as a whole and judges individually are under the protection of the state. As an MP, I will pursue the valuable disclosure of this crime and ensure that its authors are held accountable.

Armenia needs an independent judicial system as much as it needs air and water. However, the judicial system cannot operate independently and unfettered if the basic physical safety conditions for judges are not ensured.”
