The Commander of the Basij Militia Killed in Iran
On January 22, the commander of the Basij popular militia was killed in the Khuzestan province of southeastern Iran. This was reported by the Young Journalists Club agency, according to Armenpress.
It was noted that the deceased is Abdolhosein Mojdami, who served as the head of the Basij in the Darhovin district of Shadegan. The military official was shot by unidentified gunmen near his home in the morning. Local authorities announced the arrest of the perpetrators a few hours after the incident.
The Basij is a paramilitary volunteer organization responsible for monitoring the enforcement of laws and religious norms. The militia is part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to rough estimates, the Basij's membership numbers between 3 to 4 million, TASS reported.
