New Virus Has Not Reached Armenia from China: Torosyan
The new virus has not reached Armenia from China and does not currently require widespread public measures. This was stated by the Minister of Health of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan, during a session of the National Assembly on January 22, while responding to a question from MP Mikael Zolyan of the ruling 'My Step' alliance.
He also emphasized that the Armenian Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation both within the country and at border checkpoints. 'Suspicious travelers’ temperatures are being measured here. However, since the emergence of the new virus, no such cases have been detected. The World Health Organization has convened an emergency meeting and will issue a statement this evening. We will follow that statement and are ready to implement its provisions. If it is necessary to address the public and explain what actions they should take, we will do so immediately. But for now, there is no need for that,' the minister noted.
It is noteworthy that a new coronavirus was discovered in one of the coastal cities of China in January of this year, which causes pneumonia and is transmitted from person to person. A new case of the disease has only been recorded outside China in the United States.
