Kutoyan's Death Further Polarized the Situation: Heritage Party's Statement
The Heritage Party has issued a statement regarding the situation in the Republic of Armenia. The recent developments in Armenia's domestic and foreign political landscape require a swift and decisive response, coupled with multi-faceted actions within an atmosphere of public solidarity and understanding.
The Heritage Party notes that, unfortunately, the state system of the Republic of Armenia is experiencing stagnation in crucial sectors, while public and political understanding among like-minded forces is increasingly weakening.
The death of former NSS director Georgi Kutoyan, which is being investigated under the article for inciting suicide, has further polarized the situation. It has become clear that, with both internal and external support, there are still strong forces in Armenia capable of committing murders and inciting suicide to achieve their goals, operating under the belief that, as before, nothing will be revealed and they will continue their criminal agendas with impunity, to the detriment of our national security.
The government faces equally dangerous challenges from shortcomings in economic and social policy. Initiatives with ostensibly good intentions or logic are taken based on incorrect premises and lack proper groundwork, resulting in shocks across many public sectors. For instance, decisions to close smaller regional maternity hospitals under the pretext that adequate birth assistance is not provided, that specialists are lacking, and that there are few births, demonstrate that the state is abandoning its core function of ensuring the balanced development of infrastructure and territories, while preventing population concentration in major cities.
Additionally, the lack of a well-prepared and thoughtful approach to organizing the slaughter of animals exclusively in slaughterhouses has led to renewed street closures and protest actions surrounding government buildings.
Political tools for resolving the situation are retreating in the face of non-political and decidedly uncivilized methods. The level of debates in the National Assembly in recent days illustrates that the criminal or street subculture remains robust within our state's parliamentary governance.
The Heritage Party, which has fought throughout its activities for the victory of free and democratic values for the sake of a sovereign, secure, and steadily advancing Armenia, expresses concern that the overall governance crisis is deepening across all branches of the Armenian government—judicial, legislative, and executive—with public trust being eroded. The primary responsible party for the mistakes and their corrections is Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
For the ultimate victory of the democratic, velvet, and non-violent revolution, the Prime Minister must take a new step to reform the functioning of the judicial, legislative, and executive bodies through possible legal and political methods. Whether this will involve forming a government of national consensus, reforming security structures, revising the judicial system, or preparing for snap parliamentary elections remains to be seen.
The public and like-minded political and social forces are awaiting a decisive action.
