We Can Show the Whole World That We Are Capable of Living in Harmony and Friendship: Armen Sarkissian
The deepening of relations between small countries, such as the world's oldest Christian state Armenia and the young Muslim country of the United Arab Emirates, can promote the idea of tolerance around the globe. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian stated this during an interview with the Emirates News Agency.
“Somehow we need to find a deeper dialogue and interconnectedness between small nations. We have strong values, and we can show the whole world that we are capable of living in harmony and friendship,” the president noted.
Sarkissian praised the UAE's promotion of tolerance, saying, “I see no reason why we cannot be tolerant, respect each other's culture, behavior, religion, and values. We can not only survive but also do something together.”
He emphasized that Armenia is the oldest Christian nation in the world. “We have four neighbors, three of whom live by Muslim values. The population of the other neighbor, Georgia, predominantly adheres to Christian values,” he added.
Armen Sarkissian expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership for accepting the Armenian community and church under their patronage.
