“We have been in the previous session of the National Assembly as well, and when our colleague Suren Grigoryan was speaking from here, I wanted to say: Mr. Ashotyan, did you come here with a wig to do whatever you want with a toupee?” stated Gevorg Gorgisyan, a member of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ parliamentary faction, during the discussion on the draft decision to amend the Law on Banking Secrecy in the National Assembly today, January 21.

“It’s like the same speeches with the same tone, the same self-absorbed approach,” he added.

“Dear colleagues, just because we oppose your project does not mean we are against the state interest. Well, you are the people, you are the state, you are the state interest, you are the authority. So then, are we building North Korea? Will you finally learn the basic culture of dialogue? This podium, this building is for the clash of ideas, not for if someone disagrees with you, then they are against the state interest. Are you unilaterally deciding what the state interest is?” he said.

The parliamentarian emphasized to the authorities, “All our speeches, all our actions are directed toward the state interest. Today, we do not want democracy to take another step back because you will try to silence the opposition with your arrogant speeches and attitude. Understand the state interest first before talking about it,” said Gevorg Gorgisyan.
